I had the pleasure of getting to work with Jordan Bateman for an event, Pour Homme; a listening campaign around men’s mental health, which brings together local creatives to share work around the theme of Men’s Mental Health. Previous to the event, Jordan had contacted me to learn more about the story of Pour Homme, the interest and passion he had in understanding the ethos of the event prior to performing showed his commitment to his art. Jordan Bateman brings a refreshing authenticity through his dedication not just to music but how he curates his performances to become an experience. Jordan’s performance not only introduced but transcended the audience to a new form of poetry. His ability to discuss to a room of mainly writers the beauty of music as an intrinsic part of healing and connection felt so natural. The carefully chosen piece, “Song of the Birds” became a way of not only closing the evening but became a form of closure from the event. All the words that were shared that evening, Bateman delivered what words cannot with four strings and his bow. It has been a true pleasure to work with Jordan and I look forward to working together again in the future.
